Apprentice training at AMECO College

The term AMECO college describes the entity of all our training activities. One of the most importantl training programs so far is our apprenticeship program.

Modern aircraft maintenance, overhaul and repair require an extremely high degree of complex engineering knowledge.

Employees must have practical skills and understand the theoretical background of their work to deal with the daily tasks of maintaining an aircraft.

This is why in 1989 AMECO built up the Aeronautical Apprentice Training Center (AATC).

AATC was first established as a technical co-operation between the People's Republic of China and the Federal Republic of Germany with the aim to transfer the German vocational training system in the domain of aeronautical engineering to China.

Lufthansa Consulting Ltd., Cologne and AMECO, Beijing gave the technical inputs to the project, supported by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and Air China (CA).

The location of the AAC facilities is on the AMECO plant near Beijing Capital Airport. The training center includes classrooms and offices, aircraft workshops and testing rooms and an auditorium.

Forty staff members received two and a half years of in-depth training from German aeronautical experts. They are all graduated engineers and were carefully selected to become instructors.
The AAC professional training program is built on the proved German dual trainingsystem, which integrates theoretical and practical skills simultaneously.

Since 1993, every year in September almost 80 middle school graduate students start a three years apprenticeship program at AATC.

The professional aeronautical training at AATC focuses on five different fields of specialization:

  • aircraft mechanics
  • aircraft engine
  • sheet metal structure
  • avionics electrics
  • industrial electrics
The three years program consists of one year basic training and two years of specialization. The main objective of the training is to improve the students' basic theoretical knowledge, operation ability and English level.

During the first year, students receive the manual skills including metalworking and machining.

The second and the third year  focuse on one of the five specialization areas. In this period students work in AMECO's workshops and hangars. They learn to maintain aircraft and to repair engine and aircraft components.

Throughout the entire three years, the practical training is enhanced by related theory courses. The theory includes applied physics, mathematics and technical communication, drafting and CAD (computer aided design).

As a part of the education, the AAC curriculum also includes English, computer skills, Chinese, politics and physical education.

At the end of the program students must pass a comprehensive examination. Having passed these exams students receive the 'Aircraft Technician Diploma'.

Students are then highly qualified to work with AMECO as well as in other aircraft related fields in China.

Admission is open to graduates from middle school with strong cognitive and manual abilities.

Applications should be sent at least three months in advance. Applicants have to pass an entry examination.
